THE PRECIPICE 041 – WITH DIGITAL FIST AND BEN FOREST | 04/08/15 | 8-10PM GMT

clocks

Back again with the techno, probably for the last time for a month or so…

We are very pleased to be joined by my good friend Ben Forest. He is a noble citizen of Wrexham and elsewhere, who has been producing psychedelic music for 8 years, despite losing a significant proportion of his work in a house flood.

Stylistically, he plays various sorts of techno (from acid and ambient, to deep dark stuff) and psytrance, while veering off into breakcore and trip-hop from time to time.

He is currently writing music for Epylepsie Records/Yellow Hazard Recordings, a dark techno/minimal/hardcore label based in south Germany and recently released a track called “Lights Between The Wired”.

He has featured on the Psychotropic Beats Collective radio station, on behalf of Dis-Infected Records, and has played a number of smaller festivals around the UK (Kinnections, OTG, Something Different, Re-Matter, etc). He has two gigs coming up, firstly a free event with Birmingham’s Re-Matter on September 4th, and he will be supporting Zetan Spore on 24th-25th October.

His previous release with Epylepsie Records can be found here:

Ben also enjoys climbing trees, attempting to communicate with animals, societal observation and people-watching, and occasional cross-dressing on special occasions.

His repertoire really is quite varied and has continued to improve over the year or so that I’ve known him, and I very much look forward to collaborating with him, in the near future. One of the two people I’ve met recently who has the precise same taste in techno as me. Come and join us.

{disclaimer – I might have accidentally played one or two of the same tunes as my guest, an oversight I blame on wine}

THE PRECIPICE 040 – WITH DIGITAL FIST AND STACIE-ANNE CHURCHMAN | 21/07/15 | 8-10PM GMT

By | News, The Precipice | No Comments

Lander-edited-red-1

Good evening fellow travellers,

I’m pleased to present Stacie-Anne Churchman tonight for our seemingly regular Tuesday night techno sessions. 40th anniversary show as well, now that I think about it.

Stacie is an excellent young lady from Sheffield, who has been producing her own tracks for around 2 years and DJing a little longer, previously running a show (currently on hiatus) called The Landing Zone which showcased a variety of calmer and more offbeat techno, over on Future Music.

She has her first release out already and is currently working on a new EP. Check below on JunoDownload:

Mano ANDREI/STACIE-ANNE CHURCHMAN/LUKE BLACK/PORQUE [Left Wing Recordings]

Stacie also loves unicorns, is renowned for her unorthodox taste in leggings and has at various points had a stalker who believes he is at the centre of some kind of international rollerblading-related mind-control conspiracy….

We’re both very big fans of the sort of dub techno I rarely get away with playing in public, so I’ve dropped a handful of those plates before Stacie’s mix, then finished off with some (mostly) darker and more upbeat cuts with my obligatory heterodox ending. I hope you enjoy. We’re very pleased to have her on board.

Everyone in the chatroom was impressed. Even as I type this, I’ve already had four people ask when the archive will be up.

It’s true that we’ve been having a slightly longer unbroken run of techno than usual. That’s not especially deliberate or anything, and regular visitors will know I like to mix the genres up a lot more. We WILL get back on the breaks soon, I promise… but this one was too good to pass up.

I feel this is an ideal time to remember that NEXT FRIDAY, I will be playing at Textured Silence @ The Cowley Club, alongside residents (and former Precipice guests) Mystery Selector & Epomeni Stasi, in deep techno mode. Please come along. It will be excellent.

I’ve got one more techno show lined up for The Precipice a fortnight from now, then we’re back on the breaks and glitch-hop, I believe. Subject, as always, to change, of course.

THE PRECIPICE 039 – WITH DIGITAL FIST AND DAVE DELGADO | 07/07/15 | 8-10PM GMT

By | News, The Precipice | No Comments

Evening all,

Tonight we have tech-house and techno all night with return of my old friend Dave Delgado (from episode 005).

Originally from Venezuela but now resident in London, we met in a record shop in Bournemouth way back in 2000 and have been friends since.

He used to have a radio show playing hard acid techno back in Maracaibo, but he’s calmed down a fair bit, writes and plays deep/tech-house and works as a session bassist.

Episode 005 remains, numerically speaking, in terms of listeners and downloads, the most popular we’ve done on here. I look forward to something new from him. :)

Since the last show, Dave has been holding a few DJ residencies around London playing diverse styles of house music.

Having formed an electronic live act called Nocturne with singer Raye, they can be seen performing live every Friday at Madisons Rooftop (St Paul’s, London) in July and are planning to start releasing original material towards the end of this year.

Dave released a breakbeat track under the alias Stanley Knife alongside Chevy One called “Be Booty King” on the Pooty Club Records which reached #2 on the Beatport breaks chart and floating around the top-10 since.

There is a forthcoming techno release on Abode Records scheduled for August 2015 under the name Observants, and earlier this year Dave worked on the soundtrack and sound design for an iOS & android game application called “Spectrum” (3D Avenue / Bulky Pix).

Loads of love in the chat for this one, again, and I’m loving the fact that my microphone works properly after all these years. It’s probably one of the more varied shows we’ve done, while still sticking broadly within one genre. Bit of a weird excursion. Enjoy. :)

Tonight’s tracklisting:

THE PRECIPICE 038 – WITH DIGITAL FIST AND MYSTERY SELECTOR | 24/06/15 | 8-10PM GMT

By | News, The Precipice | No Comments

Dear legion of the intrigued,

Tonight’s show is based around some frankly insane glitchy downtempo/psy-dub stuff from Mystery Selector. I’ve followed up with some slightly less off-the-wall breaks. Our friend from Brighton was with us for Episode 033 doing the techno thing, and I’d be very happy to have him back in the future.

I don’t have a lot more to say, except that by some reports, this may be the best show I’ve done all year, and furthermore, after 2.5 years of dodgy workarounds, I’ve finally got live mic capability. I still need to adjust the levels though, so I may be a little quiet in some places but otherwise, it adds a new dimension.

We’re back in a fortnight with my old friend Dave Delgado (Episode 005), originally from Venezuela, but now firmly entrenched in London. More on that later, but expect bleepy stuff. :)

And as previously mentioned, if you’re in Brighton for 31st July, you can catch myself, Mystery Selector, Robott, and Epomeni_Stasi playing at The Cowley Club. This should be quite special and we’ve been looking forward to it for a while. Please drop by if you’re in the area.

The week before that, Mystery Selector will also be playing the Lucidity presents Nimbus – Elements album launch party on 24th July, at The Synergy Centre, West Street, Brighton.

Tonight’s tracklisting:

Mystery Selector’s bit
Beatfarmer – Cosmic Playground
UCHU – Information
Globular – Playing For Rain
Bohemian – Fractals Everywhere
Beatroots – Bass Chakra
Lunecell – Off The Grid
Quanta – Psywamp ft Eurythmy (Quanta remix)
ZubZub – Pung
Sigil – Camel
Ott – Owl Stretching Time
Somatoast – Jerry’s Mind

My bit :
Kawatin  Paradigm Shift
Rikki – Ganesh vs Zombie Reagan (Fabrics remix)
Steve Maccabe – Case In Point
Kawatin – That Reminds Me
Mechanical Pressure ft Lin – Take Me With You (original)
Karl Sav & David Salgado – All I Want (original)
Mr Killen – Caveman (Deeply Unexpected’s broken compass remix)
Shpongle – … And The Day Turned To Night (original)

Thanks, as always, for your support.

THE PRECIPICE 035 – WITH DIGITAL FIST & SNOWDROP | TRIPLICITY WARMUP | 28/04/15 | 8-10PM GMT

By | The Precipice | No Comments

Greetings thrillseekers,

Very long story short, in a relatively significant departure from what I usually do, I will be playing downtempo dubby stuff on the chill stage at Triplicity, in Exmoor this Friday.

In preparation for this, I am joined on tonight’s show by Snowdrop, who will be playing slightly squelchier stuff later in the weekend on the same stage.

Snowdrop has appeared on this show before in one of her other guises, as xoomi on Episode 23, and has her own show over here, New Moon Grooves, keeping in tune with the lunar cycle. Check it out.

While predominantly trance-based, the Triplicity lineup has quite a bit of diversity now, and the chill stage alone is looking to be really quite impressive. I believe there are still last-minute tickets available.

Without further ado, here’s the tracklisting:

My bit:

Shpongle – Shpongle Falls
Quanta – Quazilimbo (Akasha remix)
Dubsahara – Harmonic Density (Rubicon mix)
Greg Hunter – Siliconectar v3
Androcell – Atmos-Spheres
Tripswitch – Roll Your Own
Dubsahara – Amaroq

Snowdrop’s bit:

Androcell – Sacred Encounter
Temple Step Project – I Alone (Kaminanda Remix)
Electrypnose – Sunny Heart (Far Mozaic Remix)
Bird of Prey – The First Step
Atman Construct – Parallax View (SIXIS Remix)
Quanta – Connecting Patterns
Drumspyder – Caduceus
Kuba – Bringing It All Back Home
Unknown Reality – Water Part II
Desert Dwellers – Shiva Nataraj (Drumspyder Remix)
Halfred – Snowons

Epilogue from me:

Shpongle – The Herb Garden

We will be back again very soon with Epomeni Stasi from Athens for some more deep techno, followed by the return of both Mystery Selector and Prome from the previous two shows.

Thank you for your continuing support.

By | The Precipice | No Comments

rp_digital_fist_precipice_itunes_b1-585x585.png

Evening all,

Transcontinental drum&bass from the bowels respectively of Andover, UK and Wellington, New Zealand tonight.

Slightly unusual show here, on account of having two guests in. I’ve done this deliberately as I only had a short guest mix from my New Zealander colleague eLLaRR, but it would work perfectly as a nice liquidy intro before repeat-visitor Prome’s moodier stuff.

eLLaRR is originally from Portsmouth but successfully moved to the other side of the planet a couple of years ago and is now a regular on Wellington, New Zealand’s Fast Radio 1.

Prome has appeared here before, on episode 26 of The Precipice, and will be back again in on May 26th, as this was actually the first half of a two hour mix he’s provided me with. I’m reliably informed he’s working on some new productions as well, as we speak. More on that, later.

Tonight’s tracklisting:

eLLaRR’s bit.

Tokyo Prose (Feat. Lenzman & Fox) – Won’t Let Me Go –
LSB – XLRS
Etherwood (Feat. Rocky NTI) – Spoken (S.P.Y Remix)
Fred V & Grafix – Denmark Road
Maduk & ChampionLove Like This
S.P.Y – Stardust
Lenzman (Feat. DRS) – Just Can’t Take
Lenzman – Always
Camo & Crooked – All Night (Etherwood Remix)
Hybrid Minds – Felicity
Nymfo – Brain Stimulation
Technimatic – Perseverence (VIP)
Gorgon City – Ready for your Love (Etherwood Remix)
Tokyo Prose – Small Gains
Anushka – Never Can Decide (Ivy Lab Remix)

My bit:

Icicle – Nowhere (Original)
Spinline – Geek
K-Tee & Friction – Overtime (Spectrasoul remix)
Optiv & BTK ft Podage & LaMeduza – Music Within
Spinline – Contrast
Teebee – Spaceage
Alix Perez – State 808
Future Prophecies – Vacuum

Prome’s bit:

Optical – The Shining (Metro Recordings) 1997
Optical – The End Part 2 (Fortran Rmx) (31 Records) 1998
Dom & Roland – Freeze (Dom & Roland Productions) 2014
Dillinja – Silver Blade (Higher Ground) 1997
Cause4Concern – Scatter Brain (Hybris Rmx) (C4C Records) 2012

Code 3 – What You Sayin’? (Critical Recordings) 2011
Dom & Matrix – Footsteps (Moving Shadow) 1998

We will be back again very soon with Epomeni Stasi from Athens for some more deep techno.

THE PRECIPICE 033 – WITH DIGITAL FIST & MYSTERY SELECTOR | 31/03/15 | 8-10PM GMT

By | The Precipice | No Comments

mysteryselector

Greetings, featherless bipeds.

We’re back again for more techno, this time with Brighton’s eclectic Mystery Selector. (Main website here). We actually met, only last week at Textured Silence, the night he’s currently promoting at a very nice little underground bar up there, but he seems like a top bloke and I enjoyed what he was playing, so here we are. We’ll be having him back to play some psy-dub soon, as well. :)

He describes his stylistic tendencies thus:

The music I play spans many genres but can loosely be split into two categories: psychedelic dub, glitch and trip-hop fused with world beats for warm-up slots, after-parties and bar/lounge events; and minimal/progressive techno and trance for club nights, often including live or tribal elements such as ska, reggae, celtic or other roots music. I’ve refined my playlist over the years to create a distinctive sound; recognisable across many genres which can be adapted to suit particular events and audiences.

If you happen to be in the area on April 18th, pop along to the Textured Silence at Brunswick Cellar Bar in Hove (BN3 1JL). (The May 16th show mentioned in the recording has been temporarily postponed).

Furthermore, there’s also the Sunday chill sessions at the same venue, on 26th Apr with Mystery Selector, Omnebula & Koji Maru, for more downtempo dubbiness. I won’t mention all his other gigs as there’s a long list of them and they’re all on the websites I’ve linked to. :)

We’ve also got a guest mix in hand from Textured Silence resident, Epomeni_Stasi, who’s been doing his thing out in Athens for some considerable time and may be the only person I’ve ever met besides myself who plays dub techno. More on that, soon…

I’ve opened up with some of my usual dark haunting techno, after which Mystery Selector takes it down a more quirky route, followed by my semi-traditional “something different” – in this case a reminder that I’ll be playing on the chill stage at Triplicity in Exmoor, on the May bank holiday weekend. Lots of love in the chat, as is often the case. :)

Tonight’s tracklisting is as follows:

My bit:

Polar Inertia – Black Sun
Claudio PRC – Kar
Efdemin – Night Train
Efdemin – Drop Frame
Stella – Office & Store (Efdemin remix)
Sigha – Over The Edge (Shifted remix)
Mauro Picotto – Cold Blood (Cari Lekebusch remix)
Yan Cook – Bell
Woo York – Abandoned City (Deepbass & Ness remix)
Deepbass & Ness – Portal
Jeroen Search – Earth

Mystery Selector’s bit:

Pallida – Random Moves
Giuliano Rodrigues – Translucent (original)
Chaim – Chicken Kiev
Colour – LSD
Little Thoughts – Tripping Balls
Polysick – Daydream
Nikroma – Memioplasm
Joachim Pastor – Md Ma
Dataura – Throbble
Mark Dekoda – Bionic Hazard

THE PRECIPICE 032 – WITH DIGITAL FIST & BUSHBY | 03/03/15 | 8-10PM GMT

By | News, The Precipice | No Comments

digitaldistortions.png

Evening all,

Back in session again with Bushby. Leeds-based filth wizard, head of exceptional glitchy electro-breaks label, Digital Distortions, and fellow cat lover, he was previously featured on Episode 12 of The Precipice where we were both in more angry and complex mode… this time, it’s still breakbeat but much more generally progressive this time. Some interesting tunes in here. Check it out.

His increasingly diverse Brawlcast can be found here. Bushby used to be my go-to guy for dark and complex stuff, a few years ago. I don’t have a lot more to say except that his label was quite a strong influence on me.

I started off with a couple of tunes from a mix I recorded on a MiniDisc which I just found on top of my wardrobe. Truthfully, I can’t remember the names of all of them. Then we’ve got Bushby’s bit, followed by a handful of mostly quite old breaks tracks from me.

Tonight’s tracklisting:

Some old stuff from me

*** will get back to you ***

Bushby’s bit

Tarrantella - Saturn (Quivver Remix) [Whoop!]
DJ Killer - Thunder [Functional Breaks]
Rhino Drum - Suipacha 220 [Choo Choo Limted]

Beber & Tamra - Travelling On (Koma & Bones Remix) [Mob]
Dan F - Interceptor [Disuye]
John Creamer & Stephane K ft. Oliver Twisted - I Love You (Hybrid's Claustrophobic Remix) [Acetate Ltd]
Cotton Club - Nu Jack 2K (Koma & Bones Vs. Proteus 'Battle Cry' Remix) [Dorigen Music]
Sasha - Bloodlock (Wrecked Angle Remix)
Age Of Love - Age Of Love (Wrecked Angle Remix 2) [React]

My bit

T-Power feat Blade - Dangerous (Digital Pimp remix)
Merka - Blueberry
Raw As Fuck -Punks
Breach feat Kelis - The Key (2 Bad Mice remix)
Ils - No Soul (original)
